Breakfast of choice

Liver, onions, kedgeree, runny eggs, spot of bacon and a port sausage keeps the energy up, what? And maybe a spot of tea.

Last book read

The Casebook of Sherlock Holmes. Damned if I know how he worked that stuff out, even after all these years.

Last CD/DVD/vinyl bought

I think that’d be Mr Sinatra singing “My Way”. Madge was rather fond of the crooner.

Last movie watched in a cinema – and what they thought of it

Think it would be that story about the 39 Steps, with the chap handcuffed to the young woman on the run across the Scottish countryside. Could happen to anybody, as I well know.

Regular subscription publications

Annually I purchase Wisden’s Cricketing Almanac, if you can call the disgraceful preening puppies we get on the pitch these days cricketers. Also take the Times, just to see how badly country’s gone to the dogs. Used to take Punch but that’s not published now.

Most treasured possession

Suppose I’d have to say the Chronometer, but I’m also very fond of a few things Madge bought me, and some books from my father.

Favourite fictional character (non PV)

King Arthur, the once and future king. Could use his sort to run this Lair Legion, except I don’t think he’d be that patient with the paperwork. Not done.

Ideal date venue - and who'd be the date

In all of time and space, I’d pick Trafalgar Square on VE Day, dancing with Madge as we realised everything we’d fought for and all it cost had been worth it.

Favourite sport or social activity

Cricket. Remember stepping out to the Oval with seven bales down and 115 to get before tea with a dry wicket and a ferocious Yorkshire bowler sending googlies down the offside. Those were the days. Hope the chap learned to eat without his front teeth, what?

How they’d spend their last 24 hours if they knew for sure they were going to die

Whole bunch of people I’d need to say goodbye to – children of course, and Samantha and Whitney, Asil, Lisa, the chaps in the Legion, Drury, Hagatha, Gallowglass et al. Then if there’s time left would like to smite some of the ungodly one last time – serious final word with Fokker or somebody. And maybe watch the sunset over Wendel’s hallow one last time. Been givin’ this quite a bit of thought lately.
